So you want to go green. Are you any good at it? Do you know how to do it in fact! Have a really good look around your house and see what changes you need to make in order to truly say that you are moving towards green living. Here are some things to look out for which are simple to change and can make a big difference:

  1. Light bulbs. Change all the light bulbs in the house for energy saving models. After the initial outlay you will see a reduction in your energy bill long term, and the planet will benefit too.
  2. Paper goods. Switch tissues for cloth hankies and paper towels for tea towels in order to save paper. Make notes on your PC instead of a notepad and recycle any waste paper you generate.
  3. Cleaning products. Finish off all the products you have on the go and then start again with a range of eco-friendly alternatives.
  4. Charity shops. Have a good rummage through your bedroom furniture, garages and kitchen cupboards for unwanted items and give something back to the local community.
  5. Recycling. Get the whole family on board with putting all your waste into the right bin and make regular trips to your nearest depot.
  6. Clear your plates. Use up all the produce you buy and try to avoid being in a position where you are throwing away food.
  7. Shop ethically. Whatever you need at home from food to bigger purchases like mattresses or wood flooring, make sure that the materials have been responsibly sourced.
  8. Park the car. Can you walk to where you are going? Save fuel and environmental impact by getting there under your own steam.
  9. Turn it off. Don’t leave lights on in rooms you are not using and taps running unnecessarily. It will save valuable resources and may reduce bills too.
  10. Unplug it. Stand-by modes on all kinds of appliances such as televisions actually use quite a lot of energy so turn everything off properly.
