They say, to actually understand what your parents did for you; you need to be a parent yourself!! This stands so true for me. And without exaggeration the driving force behind me being strong, self-reliant and being independent today is purely because of my Mother.
Initially I never accepted this fact but since I have been a mother myself, I now clearly understand her words and even the sacrifices she made for us.Being a mother of 3 girls and a boy and overwhelming financial troubles, it was a tough life for a 20 something mother. But not even once she broke down or even given up or chose something better. She stuck by us, took care and nurtured us to the strong beings we are today and all she did was to silently watch and be happy for us.Now all settled and happy, we owe our happiness to her. She never ceases to amaze us with her strong will power and her determination of being independent. At this age (almost 60 now) she is as energetic as I can remember before and she not even once needs or asks help of any sort. She cooks, she cleans, she feeds and she still makes us treats (whenever we visit) like when we all were kids. And if all this wasn’t enough, she has stood by me and my decisions. As a kid and a teenager I was the most rebellious of all the Sisters and often threw tantrums that I was never loved enough. She did explain and she even remained silent many times. Now looking back, I feel bad and equally happy. Mothers are mothers, they can never replace anyone and their affection is almost heavenly feeling. I remember the times I called her up in the mid of the night only just listen to her and burst into tears (life was roller coaster suddenly, marriage in 1 week and pregnant in 2 months) and i heard her countless times how strong i am supposed to be, now that i am expecting!
Like they say, don't give a child the money and tell him to spend wisely; make him wise enough to earn his own. And i believe in that strongly.
I hope someday i am as good as her if not better...
