an Ombre Beanie is Perfect for the Carrousel

The Reasons I Dressed

I took these pictures a few months ago in one of the small piazzas outside of Modena’s covered Albinelli Market.  The shop owners, market and City teamed up to offer citizens this antique Carousel as something special for the winter. I really loved this Carousel while it was in the city, and I’ve written about it and shared a few more picture here.

Modena is really starting to warm up, but usually you wouldn’t leave the house without a jacket (like this leather blazer) and a scarf.  A scarf is necessary in Italy otherwise you might catch the dreaded draft, which I’ve written a bit about here.

In Toronto it is still FREEZING, so I thought I’d share this outfit since it is still winter appropriate.  A few fashion bloggers I follow from warmer parts of the world are already in shorts, and if you live somewhere cold you really don’t need to see that! (Unless of course you are planning a vacation!)

What I Wore

There are all kinds of clothing street vendors in Italy, you’ll notice them if you ever go to a town where there is a “festa” (a town party).  They set up stalls and sell all kinds of things, which are usually made in china, used or maybe even stolen (just kidding …but not really), along with counterfeit EVERYTHING!

In Rome a few months ago I bought this toque  (a toque is what Canadians call a beanie) for 5 euro. It is an ombre beanie meaning it fades from dark to light and they were everywhere this season.

In fact my whole outfit comes from Rome market stall vendors!   The sweater is a thrifted wool knit that I got for 3 euro and the scarf I got at another vendor for 2 euro.  These were some of my BEST buys this season as I’ve been using all three things all the time.

I’m wearing a leather blazer jacket from the Montreal Canadian brand Le Chateau, it is really old (they don’t even produce leather jackets anymore!)

I’d like to think it is still “in-style” considering that every year the luxury designers come out with some version of asymmetrical, leather blazers that don’t actually look that different than mine.  I think mine is pretty similar to this D² Leather Blazer that retails for around $2,500!

My boots are by the Italian artisan leather brand Peter Flowers,  I bought them online here for a fraction of their retail price.

What is the weather like where you are living?  Find any good thrift finds this season?  I do real mom style features, show yourselves off!  Send me your pictures and I’d be happy to include you in my style feature in the Spring.

Thanks for coming by today I hope you’re enjoying my style series, It’s a little different because I share what I actually wore and where I went, since what’s the point of fashion if you have no where to go?
