To be clear, both drones feature the same design in terms of their overall body, propellers, and so on. In fact, that design hasn't changed dramatically from the existing Mavic Air, with just a few subtle changes that reportedly make it more aerodynamic. Both models retain the ability to fold up into a surprisingly small space, making them easy to transport. Where the two new drones do differ however is in the cameras and gimbals that they come equipped with as DJI looks to expand its offerings to meet the needs –– and price points –– of different users.
The Mavic 2 Pro comes equipped with a 20-megapixel camera designed and built by Hasselblad. It has a 1-inch CMOS sensor, a broader color spectrum, and can shoot 4K HDR video. It also features a f/2.8-f/11 adjustable aperture that promises to improve performance in lowlight conditions.
Meanwhile, as its name implies, the Mavic 2 Zoom comes armed with a camera that offers a 28-48 mm optical zoom and 12-megapixel sensor with a 4x digital zoom. This allows it to capture better footage from further away, using the zoom to adjust for distance while in flight. DJI says the focus is fast, smooth, and accurate, giving photographers and filmmakers more options to capture creative shots.
The Mavic 2 can reportedly reach speeds of up to 44 mph (70 km/h) and has a flight time of up to 31 minutes. It also comes with 8GB of onboard storage with the ability to expand that by adding microSD cards. The drone is said to be much quieter and smoother to operate too, which are nice improvements to have along with all of the other upgrades.
As mentioned above, both drones are available to buy now. The Mavic 2 Pro carries a price tag that starts at $1449 while the Mavic 2 Zoom comes in at $1249. The original Mavic models remain in the line-up as well, clocking in at various price points.
