A Little Bit of Skin To Skin With My Bub

By Makemeupmandy @mandywebb28

To save time, I sometimes hop in the bath or shower together with the little one. I’m not exactly sure where most people stand with this – is 2 years old too old to see mom in the buff?

One thing I miss most about the infancy stage is the whole skin to skin thing. The skin to skin cuddling of a precious, vulnerable newborn right after birth. The skin to skin snuggling that breastfeeding allows for. The first months where they barely leave your embrace. I miss breastfeeding, I often say.

My little one is still very cuddly and enjoys having a snuggle buggle or two but I think she still enjoys the skin to skin thing more. The intimacy that skin to skin draws you into far beyond the clothed cuddles can be a little hard to describe.

You see, when we’re playing with toys in the bath, my little one still asks for cuddles. I love it when she lays quietly and comfortably in my embrace, the buoyancy of the water relieving her weight and pressure that’s been preventing me from carrying her for any longer than a couple of minutes these days. She lays content in my embrace and for that couple of minutes (little kids, with their short attention spans, still rather spend more time on bath toys it seems), we enjoy each other’s warmth. She likes listening to my heart beat. It’s the whole beauty of skin to skin.

Kids grow up way too fast. Miss 9’s starting to think it’s gross to kiss her dad on the lips. She still kisses me but usually just on the cheeks now. I’m just cherishing every single bit of these snuggling moments with the little one, while enjoying a bit of skin to skin still every once in a while.

Do you still enjoy little skin to skin moments with your little one? How old do you think is too old for a toddler? I’m not sure if I would do it if I had sons instead of daughters actually!
