When you feel stress starting to get the better of you, it's important to take a few moments to yourself but sitting rocking back and forward in an empty room won't help you, so here's a few tips to make the most of those few moments...
1 - Breathe
This sounds obvious, but stress often leads to panic and feeling anxious and so if you take a few moments just to focus on taking a few deep breaths you will have cleared your thoughts momentarily and will help you to think more clearly. I find this can make me a little bit dizzy so don't be alarmed if you feel a bit dizzy!
2 - Music
I'm not talking whale noises here, I mean turn on your favorite song and turn up the volume! Sing as loud as you like and dance like no-one's watching! The singing pushes out any tension in your chest and the dancing free's off the muscles while the movement produces feel good endorphins and make you happy. Your built up adrenaline then has a positive avenue instead of a stressful one. Trust me girls, it works.
3 - Go For A Shower
If you have time, go for a shower. The sound of the trickling water and warm water on your skin will relax you. Make sure you use all your favorite products and you will feel like you've had a mini spa! I prefer showers to baths because of two reasons - One is that the running water is soothing, and two is that lying in a bath means you have time to reflect over what is making you stressed. The idea is to distract yourself from the stress and have a few moments to yourself, not to mull over the same things that stressed you out in the first place.
4 - Watch a Friends DVD
I don't know anyone who doesn't love 'Friends'. Crack on a DVD and laugh until you cry - there's enough going on to keep you entertained without feeling upset or pressured. Plus if you fall asleep on the sofa, it's not like you've lost 2 hours of a film, just a half hour episode. Damn I love Friends.
5 - Re-arrange Your Wardrobe
Girls, we all have too many clothes. ALL OF US! Take all of the clothes out of your wardrobe, remove them from their hangers and throw them on your bed. Start sifting through your clothes and rehang them all on their hangers and place them in your wardrobe. Feeling organized will definitely help you and the challenge of it will keep your mind distracted from your stresses.
6 - Cry
Yep, an excuse to be an emotional wreck. Just let it all out, whether it be on your own or with a loved one or if you're like me, with your cats LOL! Just cry, scream and sob and do all the things that let you get the tension out. Crying is a huge stress reliever, as is laughing, but when you're feeling stressed you're less than in the mood to laugh! So girls, grab the Kleenex!
I hope my tips on steering off stress have helped you. I definitely am the kind of girl who gets stressed easily so if you have any de-stressing tips then please do leave them below.
All My Love...
