In a never ending battle to keep up with today’s hectic pace of society, women are looking for quick and effective ways to take care of their skin and look cute. I hear from my clients all the time “I want to look nice, but I just do not have the time to spend more than 10 minutes in the bathroom…” Great news! With the right essentials, even the busiest on-the-go gal can have a head-turning put-together look in no time at all with these 8 Essential make-up must haves:
1: Tinted Moisturizer with SPF – Protection from the sun is a must, and tinted moisturizer with an SPF is a perfect “Dash-out-the-door” solution! Although it is lighter in weight than a traditional foundation, this easy step will protect and even out your skin tone.
2: Cream Eye Color- I LOVE cream eye color because it is the ultimate must have for “on-the-go” looks! It is also great for the gal who finds it challenging to apply eye color because all you do is put the color on your lid and if you mess up a little it is forgiving and can be easily blended. Another perk is cream eye color is for women of all ages, so just be sure the product guarantees it will not settle in the creases of your eyes. I happen to use one that is long lasting, and can double as an eye primer! I recommend getting a brush to apply (I know of some that are only $10) or you can use your finger.
3: Mascara- Mascara is a great on-the-go product that will make you look “done up” without much effort. Be sure to use a good quality product so that your lashes do not become brittle and break, and will last all day. Application tip: Start at the base of the lashes and move the brush back and forth, side to side to create thicker, fuller lashes!
4: Lip Gloss/Lip Stick- It doesn’t take much to make you feel like you are “put together” without spending hours in the bathroom, and lip gloss/lipstick is a great tool to use. Adding a quick application will help you that “little something extra” without taking a ton of time!
So I have talked about the make-up must haves for the on-the-go-gal; but if you apply make-up you MUST remove it. Sleeping in your make-up is terrible for your skin and can age you! The remaining must haves are to help you minimize your time at night in the bathroom, and are a bare minimum requirement to ensure you continue to have perfect skin.
5: Eye Make-up Remover- This is one of my absolute favorite products, and is a must have for the quick removal of your eye make-up. Use eye make-up remover rather than soap or a cleanser since the eye is a delicate area.
6: Cleanser- Remember, it doesn’t matter how much make-up you put on, if you haven’t taken care of your skin your make-up will not look good, thus cleansing is a must have for your make-up bag! Be sure to pick the correct cleanser for your skin type (i.e. combo/oily; normal/dry).
7: Eye Cream- Our eye area is the first place we show our age, so why not halt that aging by using an eye cream. There are many eye creams out there, and I recommend starting early in life to prevent the early signs of aging (Yes, I’m talking to you early 20 somethings!). Obviously when you are in your 20’s you only need a basic cream that will do away with those pesky fine lines and wrinkles. For those of us over 30, I recommend using a “triple threat” eye cream; one that firms, brightens, and attacks the fine lines. Application tip: Use your ring finger and pat, not rub, the cream under your eye to prevent pulling in the delicate eye area.
8: Moisturizer- Moisturizer is a must have and luckily it takes all of 20 seconds to apply it! Follow your cleansing with a moisturizer to keep your skin feeling soft and smooth! Remember this moisturizer is for your face and not for your eyes. The skin around your eye is so delicate that you cannot use the same product for both.
There! Now you have the 8 must have make-up items for you on-the-go-gals! Not only can you feel beautiful in a short amount of time, but you won’t have a make-up bag full of items you’ll likely never use (or as I like to call them, “graveyard beauty products”).
