7 Tips and Tricks for Perfect Eyelashes

By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

When it comes to a complete make-up look, it's never complete without perfect eyelashes.

For some, they're not easy to get. A lot of people are blessed with naturally long eyelashes that have the perfect curl to them, but others need to put a lot of effort into styling to make them look long and fluttery!

Fortunately, it's not actually difficult to get a set of full lashes that stand out to everyone.

Follow these tips if you've been struggling to get the perfect set of eyelashes and you'll discover just how easy it can be.

1. Curl Them

To get great eyelashes, you should never underestimate how much of an effect curling can have on them!

Many people have straight eyelashes, which makes them stick straight out. That means they're not visible to people looking, so even coating them with a thick mascara will only make the bare minimum of difference.

To combat this, you can curl them.

Place the curler as close to the base of the lashes as possible to lift them before applying mascara. Once you've done that, they'll curl upwards which means mascara will be more visible on those lashes!

For extra-great eyelashes, heat your curler up a tiny bit before curling with a hairdryer. The heat will help keep the eyelashes in place.

2. Choose Your Mascara Wisely

Not every mascara works for everyone, which is why it's important to choose carefully and experiment.

For some, they want volume; others want the illusion of extra length. A heavy mascara will work well if you already have a good set of lashes, but they might weigh down others.

The best thing you can do is pick up samples where possible and try them out - also, read the reviews!

Waterproof mascaras are great for keeping your make-up in place, but they can also be drying. It's all about finding out what works for you.

3. Primer

One of the most obvious eyelash tips and tricks that no one seems to use is to use primer! Primer is there give your make-up a base to cling to, and by using it on your eyelashes, your mascara is more likely to stay put.

It's an often-skipped step but if you try it once, it might make the world of difference for you.

4. The Wiggle Technique

When applying mascara, most people put the brush under their lashes and drag it straight up to coat them all. Although this might work, it's not the most effective way to apply mascara.

What you should do is get the brush as close as possible to the lash line and wiggle it as you bring it towards the ends. By doing this, you'll make sure every lash is coated evenly - the last thing you want is mascara clumps!

You'll also make sure to get the shorter eyelashes towards the inner eye that are often missed by a more basic technique.

5. Get a Lash Lift

If your natural eyelashes are short and straight, a lash lift may be just what you need. By securing your lower lashes and applying a specialized cream to your upper ones, you can mold them to sit higher and give the illusion of lash extensions - when it's all you putting in the effort!

This is one of the great natural eyelash hacks and can be done by yourself or a professional.

They tend to last longer than lash extensions and are much lower maintenance because it's just your lashes. You can apply mascara and other make-up around your eyes worry-free.

6. Try False Lashes

If you want to go for a seriously dramatic effect for a special occasion, it's time to try some false lashes.

These either come in strip lash form or individual lashes. Strip lashes are quicker to apply but tend to look less natural, and often have decorations such as glitter or studs in them.

However, if you want great eyelashes that only need to last a night, they might be perfect for you. Just make sure to carry some extra glue in your purse, as false eyelashes can often come off during the night and that's the last thing you want!

Don't expect them to last longer than twelve hours, max.

7. Try Extensions

If you want the dramatic effect of false lashes with a natural edge, try lash extensions. These are applied by a professional and can be customized to look as dramatic or as natural as you want.

Extensions can cost between $61-180, on average, and usually need to be refilled every 4-8 weeks, depending on which type you have and how well you maintain them. It's not recommended to put mascara on them, so if you're someone who loves applying their eye make-up, they may not be for you.

However, if you want salon perfect eyelashes that look natural where you can roll out of bed and go, they may be what you need. Just be sure to brush through them every day.

With a Little Effort, You Can Have the Perfect Eyelashes!

Perfect eyelashes might seem unattainable to you, especially if you don't have your own long or thick lashes and have yearned for them. With a few make-up tips and tricks, however - or professional procedures, if you'd like - the perfect eyelashes aren't far away.

You just have to be willing to put in a little effort and do a little maintenance, but that's well worth it for a beautiful set of lashes!
