6 Things You Need To Know Before Getting an Eyebrow Wax

By Everybeautytalks

Today rather than a makeup post, I thought I would share some of my knowledge from my Beauty Therapist background.

I wanted to share a few things to be aware of in terms of getting your brows tamed (or any other facial waxing for that matter) with all my readers as I feel it is something that not many people are aware of!

Believe it or not, but there are a number of factors that can contribute to how well, or not so well your wax will turn out and most of the factors are to do with your skin and what you have been doing to it. The skin on your face, especially the eye area is sensitive and fragile. Most people aren't aware that what you are putting on your face and the treatments you are having done in the lead up to a wax can have a huge impact in how your skin is going to react.

Skin lifting and redness are common outcomes in the facial waxing world if you are using certain products on your skin and what concerns me the most about all this is how many (or next to none) salons make their clients aware of this pre-wax.

Skin lifting is when your skin actually comes off when the wax is removed. The degree of skin removal is different in different cases. People often think that this result is a burn on their face. Chances are that if the wax was not hot on application it is lifting, not burning.

To help you all out a little, I have put together a little list of 6 pointers to help you avoid this mishap. Please note that this does not cover everything and individual results will vary.

1. A lot of people aren't aware that the skincare you use daily can affect the result of your brow wax. Avoid Benzyl peroxide, Vitamins A and E, Accutane, Retinol, and other active or heavy chemical based skincare products 1 month before a wax as they thin the skin and make it more prone to skin lifting.

2. Facial treatments can also affect how your skin will react to facial waxing. Avoid having a laser or chemical peel (even a mild fruit enzyme peel) and Microdermabrasion 1 month prior to waxing. These treatments significantly exfoliate the skin and waxing does the same. Due to this, risk of skin lifting is increased.

3. The more hydrated you are, the better! Being hung over not only means that your waxing experience is going to be more painful, but you also have a higher chance of skin lifting, irritation and redness.

4. Avoid getting your brows waxed for about an hour after the gym or strenuous exercise. Your skin is hot and really flustered. Let your skin settle for the best potential and comfortable result.

5. Dry skin can also experience skin irritation. Make sure you have been applying eye cream or moisturiser everyday. Applying moisturiser only on the morning of a wax is not going to help your flaky skin nearly enough.

6. When in doubt, opt for a brow tweeze rather than a wax.

Have you ever been made aware of these factors before a brow wax?

All opinions are my own. Results will vary. I am by no means suggesting individuals should not have their brows or facial waxing performed.
