5 Ways Your Pillow Maybe Ruining Your Beauty Routine

By Alyssa Martinez @ItsMariaAlyssa

As women, we do uphold our beauty regimen. Despite our busy and erratic schedules, we always find time to get our retouches.

Most of the time, we do these things during the night-specifically, hours before bedtime. Of course, that's quite understandable as that is only part of the day where we don't have anything to do. You expect that when the morning comes, your face and stature would have been rejuvenated already.

But to your surprise, it didn't. Moreover, much worse, things got worse. So, who's to blame here?

Well, your pillow might be the culprit. As much as I hate to break it to you, your pillows can actually ruin your face and hair. If you have a cotton pillow, you are more susceptible to these problems

Are you intrigued by this fact? In this article, I will show you the five ways your pillow maybe ruining your beauty routine.

Hair and Skin Dryness

Cotton, in general, has a robust absorbent feature. It can suck any form of liquid that it gets in contact. If you lie on cotton pillows with your skin exposed, the former will siphon your natural moisture.

Of course, having dry skin is not a good thing. The lines in your skin and wrinkles will be emphasized, making you look old and tired.

Furthermore, too much dryness in the skin will cause the latter to have difficulties in getting the nutrients of skin cosmetic products.

One of the best solutions for this problem is to invest in other types of pillows or pillowcases. It would help if you tried the buckwheat pillow because it doesn't have absorbing capacities like cotton.

Eye Bags

Aside from the material used in the pillow, it has to be emphasized that its thickness can cause adverse effects on your face.

Specifically, one should know that flat pillows can make your eyes look weary and tired. These pillows can also result in eye bags, especially for those stomach sleepers.

Well, the right solution for this is to avoid sleeping in a flat pillow if you are a notorious stomach sleeper. Moreover, you can also try on using thick options to avoid such predicament.

Alternatively, a sleeping mask can also prevent the puffiness of your eyes caused by the gathered fluid.

Wrinkles

Let's go back to cotton pillows again. You see, one of the problems in using cotton pillows for extended periods is wrinkles. If you sleep with your face against them, you are making the right conditions for premature wrinkles to grow.

Just like I said earlier, cotton is absorbent. They can also suck out the collagen of your skin, making it more prone to wrinkle and fine line growth. They are not the first thing that you want to see in the morning.

This time, what you need to do is to get a pillow that has a different build as cotton. It could be silk or buckwheat or a different kind of textile. As long it doesn't absorb any form fluid in your skin, it is already a good choice.

Trying homemade creams might also help in this case. Their contents are more natural and more vibrant than commercial ones-making them more potent in moisturizing your skin.

Pimples

Pillows can cause pimple breakouts, regardless of the material that has been used on it. There's a good chance that it is the very cause why your pimples don't merely disappear even if you are using a variety of facial products.

Take note that dirt and other forms of microscopic rubbish can settle in your pillow-specifically in the pillowcase. Of course, these things are among the most prevalent perpetrators of pimple growth.

Fortunately, the solution to this problem is pretty straightforward. However, it requires dedication on your part. It would be best if you wash your pillows and their cases on a regular basis. You should do this more frequently if you notice that your skin is naturally oily.

Hair Breakages

Another horrifying problem that pillow can cause to your beauty regimen is hair breakages. Many products today, including cotton, are very notorious in triggering friction between your skin and hair. If you tend to move around, hair frizz and breakages are something that you should expect next in the morning.

It is quite a troublesome problem considering that we don't have control of your movement while we are in deep slumber. Luckily, there's a way on how to fix this problem. Moreover, that doesn't require drastic measures.

When you sleep, you can wrap your hair with a silk strand. This particular material doesn't because of friction after all. You can also invest in a silk pillowcase to cover your existing pillow.

Wrapping It Up

It is quite disheartening that your favorite sleeping amenity can somehow ruin your beauty routine. Pillows give us absolute comfort and support while we are sleeping. Therefore, it is indeed shocking that they can cause potential harm to our skin and hair.

However, there's no need for you to dispatch them. All you need to do is to follow the tips that I have given. They can mitigate the problem and ensure that you can wake up beautifully on the day.

That's it for now. If you have questions or suggestions, feel free to drop them in the comment section below.
