The Geomatics Association of Nova Scotia (GANS) and the Canadian Institute of Geomatics (CIG) Nova Scotia Chapter came together to host a workshop centered around 3D Data mapping. It took place at the Centre of Geographic Sciences (COGS), one of Canada's largest geomatics focused learning environments offering geographic information programs in the fields of GIS, surveying, remote sensing, mapping and land-use planning.

The event brought together close to 150 people from the geospatial community from industry, non-profit groups, associations, academia and all levels of government. (number of registrants was much higher, but a winter storm caused several people to not show up).

It showcased the latest information on the technologies and their applications in 3D Mapping and included presentations, discussions, demos, and poster displays promoting technologies, related to the latest collection, analysis, and visualization software / hardware, from GIS to Virtual and Augmented Reality.

The event also helped to engage the geospatial community in Atlantic Canada, increasing awareness of the benefits of using geospatial data and tools for effective decision making, as summarized by Hugh MacKay, A member of the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly (and former GANS President).
