"This year's NHL All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles will celebrate both the present and the past, beginning with Friday night's announcement of the 100 Greatest NHL Players, and culminating with the NHL All-Star Game on Sunday afternoon.
Michelle Crechiolo from pittsburghpenguins.com, the Penguins' social media team and a PensTV crew will be on hand to provide coverage before, during and after all events.
On Friday night, beginning at 9:30 PM ET on NBC Sports Network, the NHL will unveil the remaining 67 players of its 100 Greatest NHL Players collection at the Microsoft Theater. The first 33 players were announced earlier this month at the NHL Centennial Classic.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby, who will hold the same title for the Metropolitan Division throughout the weekend, and the rest of the All-Stars will partake in the NHL Skills Competition on Saturday night at 7:00 PM ET. The Skills Competition will also be broadcast on NBC Sports Network.
Crosby is slated to participate in the Gatorade NHL Skills Challenge Relay, where the Metro Division will go head-to-head against the Atlantic Division. Crosby will be doing the stick-handling portion of the event against Toronto's Auston Matthews.
That won't be the only time Crosby and Matthews face off, as they'll also battle in the DraftKings NHL Accuracy Shooting event.
Before the Skills Competition, the NHL will hold the All-Star Celebrity Shootout beginning at 5:15 PM ET, an event that will be streamed live both on NHL.com and the NHL App. Penguins' Hall of Fame owner Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky will serve as head coaches for the shootout, which is a friendly hockey game featuring 100 Greatest NHL Players honorees and celebrities from the worlds of movies, television and music.
Crosby, who will be skating in his second All-Star Game, and first since 2007, will lead the Metropolitan Division against the Atlantic Division in one game of the three-on-three NHL All-Star Game tournament on Sunday, beginning at 4 PM ET. The winning team will face the winner of the battle between the Pacific and Central Divisions in the final.
Prior to the All-Star Game, members of the 100 Greatest NHL Players announced on Friday will take part in the pre-game ceremony.
Also prior to Sunday's All-Star Game, the NHL Mascot Showdown will be live streamed on NHL.com beginning at 2:00 PM ET. This contest will consist of two eight-minute periods.
Our own Iceburgh will be on hand to help the Eastern Conference against the Western Conference in the battle for the NHL Mascot Showdown Trophy. We also hope he captures the Most Valuable Mascot Award."
