2012 MGUG Fall Conference

The Manitoba GIS User Group (MGUG) has began to put together their MGUG Fall Conference scheduled for September 25th in Winnipeg, Manitoba. MGUG is a group of geomatics professionals and interested individuals using or supporting the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for spatial data management, analysis, and visualization.  Formed to facilitate communication between people working in all areas of GIS, the User Group meets to allow its members to learn more about current activities and technologies within the industry and to network with their peers. MGUG memberships are free and open to all who share an interest in geomatics.

This years Diamond MGUG Conference Sponsor is TECTERRA who will bring Ed Parsons, Geospatial Technologist of Google to deliver the keynote address. Also joining Ed Parsons on this years agenda are Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship Deputy Minister Fred Meier and Dr. Mohamed Abousalem (Chief Executive Officer, Tecterra ) with Scott Thomson (President and CEO of Manitoba Hydro) providing opening remarks.

“Mr. Parsons’ is responsible for Google’s mission to organize the world’s information using geospatial tools including: Google Earth, Google Maps and Google Maps for Mobile. As a geospatial evangelist, Mr. Parson’s is on the leading edge reshaping how humanity views the earth and our place in it.”

An onstage interactive Discussion Panel / Forum is scheduled to take place, and will provide insight and discussions on Manitoba’s Geomatics trends, direction and aspiration. The panel is made up of Manitoba’s six main GIS “Movers and Shakers” whom each represent levels of government , Manitoba Hydro, and the Education and Private Industry.

The MGUG 2012 Fall Conference looks to provide information leading edge products & technology, some great networking opportunities and some outstanding geomatics based presentations all jam packed into one day.

Manitoba GIS User Group have set “Geodrive to 500” as their goal for the 2012 Fall Conference as they are confident that we can expect up to 500 participants. They have designed a “GeoDrive to 500″ widget on the top of their website to keep track of the progress. Make sure to check often to see how we are doing.
