I have been on a long search for a BB cream which hasn’t underwhelmed me, made me look like a ghost, or been absurdly expensive. I decided to give the 17 BB Cream All-in-One Magic Make Up a go because although they’re a high street brand, I was pleasantly surprised to see their BB cream came in its own sleek black box. No doubt adding a false sense of grandeur, I was a little dismayed to find that the BB cream came in just the standard ‘light’ and ‘medium’ shades, but fortunately the ‘light’ shade seemed to match fairly well as it has a pink undertone. It’s slightly darker than my natural skin tone but it gives me a nice tanned glow instead of making me look like an Oompa Loompa. I’m honestly not one for fake tan, but the color and coverage is even and subtle enough for a natural finish – unlike the BB cream by The Body Shop!

The cream itself has a pleasant sun cream scent, possibly owing to its SPF15, and has a creamy consistency. It rubs in well and evenly, without feeling gloopy, thick or heavy, and leaves a smooth and illuminating finish. The cream dries quickly without drying your skin out, and leaves a natural dewy look with a light to medium coverage. It also makes a good base for powder foundations which is good because I do find I need to top up the powder several times when wearing this BB cream.

I have oily skin which unfortunately the 17 BB Cream All-in-One Magic Make Up can’t compete with. Although it stays put for about 4 hours (in the workplace with air con units) I do find that my oil is out of control after that. This may be down to the hydrating qualities of the BB cream, but this renders it unreliable for me on a day-to-day basis. I’d happily wear the cream on a day when I don’t have to worry about my greasy skin though because I do like the glowing finish that it provides, and I think the coverage is good because it gives a natural finish. I reckon it’ll be one of my go-to products in the summer, but probably best kept for out-of-office use.

This BB cream costs £6.99, but even with an oil-control moisturiser underneath this it can’t survive my oily skin. I do like the finish, but I didn’t notice my skin improving after a week of use and I’ve not continued using it after that so I can’t comment on 17‘s claim of better skin in 30 days. I do like this blemish balm and think it’s good for the price, but I would avoid it if you have oily skin or yellow undertones. Much better suited instead to someone with normal to dry skin.
