12 Ways to Decorate Your Personal Journal & Junk Journal

Junk Journals, Art Journals or Mixed Media Journals. There are many various types of journals available for you to create aside from the stereotypical Bullet Journal. Personally, I'm not a neat person. My mind is as messy as my life so it's natural that my journals are too. Thus, I often lean towards Junk Journals and Mixed Media journals for my spreads for it clearly depicts what goes on in my head.

For me, journalling is more than something to be portrayed on my social media. It's a form of expression. A way to not only jot down my daily happenings but to release everything from my mind - onto the form of dead trees. A way to get rid of all the voices in my head and allow me to hear myself. I am not apologetic for my messy journalling style but I am willing to try out new styles and see what's the response is like. With that, I present to you my hot mess.

Welcome to 2019!

Another year, another spread. Since it's January, it's time for a new routine. After all, new year, new me - or so we thought. 2018 was a mess. I felt like I was on a never ending roller coaster ride that filled with more downs than up. It was long but not long enough. Suddenly, it's another year.

This year, I want to focus on myself. To put myself first and understand what I want and who I've become. I hope achieve great things and ultimately be a healthy, happy pig - yes, I'm born in the year of the pig. To be able to maintain a clear mind, to choose what I deem would be the best decision for me and not settle due to social pressure. Because I'm worth it and it will be better, even though that it might not feel that it's not.

Short catch up done. No resolutions written for I'm just not that kind of person who stick to resolutions. Anyways, the first post of the year is a combination of a quarter of my journal spreads that I've posted on my Instagram.

Traveler's Notebook Stamp Collection

I went to Singapore's first every Journalling festival at the end of 2018. There were not only free washi tapes samples but there were free festival exclusive stamps as well. Since I had a bulky journal, I stamp the stamps on a piece of paper, cut them out and decorate it in my actual journal after.

Smash Book

This pages have more of a smash book style for I used memo pads, journal cards, die cuts and other new items for the pages. I decided to sectioned one page into 4 so that they each have their own accent. I would call these spread my quote pages.

Bang on the door, Make it groovy, a magazine from my younger days that help spark my creative juices. The magazine were the print version of pinterest - printerest - of those days and I will never forget them.

You can never guess that for something that you have to build it yourself, it costs $30 - $40. FYI, the black and white version at the bottom is from the instruction manual. It looked like the sketched up version of the Takoyaki stand.

Junk Journal

There's no main theme or goal for this page, it's created simply to fill up the pages. My mind is messy and it's portrayed on the pages.

Part memories, part junk.

I tried to create a simple activity on the pages but it's just not working.

Personal Journal | Daily Journal

This page is to commemorate the time I went to Aliwal Arts Centre for a quick job I did. I included some notes from the day and a map of where the festivals were held.

Perankan Museum + Singapore Philatelic Museum

It's nice to visit places you've never been to once in a while. There, you not only learn new things but you meet new people too. I learned that the Pernakan museum is scary with old photos staring at you in the face and the Philatelic Museum is a fun place for letter writers like me.

Light to Night Festival

A light-art festival in Singapore that features art in the form of lights around the central of Singapore. The places was so filled with people that the atmosphere resemble the mess on the page. Dark with some sort of light but still messy in general.

What I like about this spread is the tea pocket I made. As there are leftover dried tea in the pocket, it made my bookmark smell so nice. I also like the layering effect and the stamping I did on the corner of the bookmark.
