Zoom Demo October 9: Rescuing a Boring Painting

By Ingrid Christensen

Rescuing a Boring Painting
Online Demo
October 9
2:00 - 3:30 pm PDT

Like many art instructors, I've taken my teaching online during the past few months, and it's worked amazingly well.

Working with the Winslow Art Center in the US, I've taught several workshops that cover the basics of my approach: colour, alla prima layering, composition, and more.  Because the workshops have private chat rooms, I've been able to interact with students and make comments and suggestions about the work that they upload.  The lessons have been warm and fun - a lot like the old fashioned, in person workshops -  but everyone stayed safely at home.

I'm going to continue to work this way for the foreseeable future, even teaching a figure painting workshop in October in which we'll have a model posing for us from her own space.

Coming up next month I'll be taking on a new challenge: an online, 90 minute demo.

In it, I'll take something that all painters have in abundance - a boring painting - and turn it into something that's dynamic, focused, and personal.

I'll use brushes, palette knives, and alternative tools, all the while describing my thought process as I work.
I'll explain:
- why I choose particular colours
- how I use value, brushwork, and selective detail to create focus in a work
- why lively edges are so important for a lively painting and how to create them
- and much more!
My goal is to show you how to bring a confident and playful approach to your canvas through both logical, and intuitive mark making.
I'll also answer as many of your questions as I can during the 90 minutes.
Don't worry if you can't catch the demo on the 9th.  It will be recorded and available to watch until Oct 23 so you can choose the time that works for you.
I hope you'll tune in!
The price for the demo is $40 USD.
