YouTube Has made a big announcement. The company will shut down its Stories feature next month. YouTube has announced that YouTube Stories will be closed on 26th of next month i.e. 26th June. Now the company wants to give its full attention to YouTube shorts, community posts and live videos. For this reason the stories are being closed.

YouTube says that creators will be informed about the shutdown through various channels, including forum posts, in-app messages, reminders in YouTube Studio, and more. Come, let’s know in detail.

YouTube is shutting down this feature

A feature like Stories is available on many social media platforms including Instagram. However, YouTube is now about to discontinue this feature. These days the company is shifting its focus from the more casual story format to the short-form vertical video format popularized by TikTok.

When did the story feature come?

For your information, let us tell you that YouTube first launched the Stories feature in 2018. The company officially rolled out the feature with over 10,000 users. YouTube suggested at the time that creators could use Stories to engage with their viewers. This will allow them to reach users with their more polished and behind-the-scenes updates, vlogs, information on upcoming videos, quick updates and more.

Stories stay on YouTube for so long

Like Stories on Instagram and Snapchat, YouTube Stories also disappear after some time. In Instagram, after one day i.e. 24 hours, the story is automatically removed. However, unlike the way users can save stories with Instagram’s story highlights, it was not possible to save stories to a creator’s profile on YouTube.

These platforms also stopped this feature

YouTube is not the only platform to shut down Stories. Netflix had in previous years tested “Extras,” a feature like Stories in its mobile app where it shared videos and photos from popular shows.

The streamer later launched features such as its short-form comedy video feed “Fast Laughs” and a children-related vertical video feature to drive the adoption of vertical video.

Not only Netflix but Linkedin also removed its Stories feature in 2021. After discontinuing the story feature, it has to be seen what improvements YouTube makes in the rest of its features and what new feature is being brought in place of the story for the users.
