Every little girl dreams about being a princess some day and getting the crown and the prince… Laura Johnston is very near to attaining part of this dream and hopefully being crowned Miss Leeds 2013.
Laura Johnston, a Chemistry Degree graduate, now based in Leeds has been selected as one of the 37 finalists of the Miss Leeds competition 2013. But in August last year, Laura couldn’t have been further from entering any kind of pageant. Instead she was laying in intensive care suffering with a fractured skull and lucky to be alive, after a serious motorbike accident.
Working in Rhodes Greece at the time, Laura was just making an everyday trip back home after work on her motorbike when she lost control of the bike whilst avoiding an on-coming car which had suddenly pulled out into the road. With no helmet on Laura suffered a serious head injury which left her unconscious for one day and fighting for her life in intensive care for five days. Unable to move and with all her front teeth shattered, things where not looking good for Laura, but now 9 months on she has managed to walk away with very little lasting damage and is back to her bubbly self, determined to make the most of life by first striving to be crowned Miss Leeds 2013.
When talking to Laura we asked her what winning Miss Leeds competition would mean to her: ‘I am grateful for just the chance to be part of Miss Leeds. Winning the competition would be a milestone for me, especially in terms of helping me get over my accident and building my confidence back up. I am very lucky to be here, things could have so easily gone the other way and it didn’t.’
Family run fashion independent Accent Clothing, Leeds have sponsored Laura and have been supporting her through each stage of the Miss Leeds competition to help attain her dream.
Director at Accent Clothing Louise Schneider says ‘Accent Clothing is thrilled to sponsor Laura who has shown such character and determination following such a life changing accident, which was enough to knock the confidence of anyone.’
Laura now faces the five stages of the Miss Leeds final which is held on Friday 10th May at Baracoa Luxe Bar in Leeds.
