These charts reflect the results of a new Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between May 27th and 30th of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,269 registered voters), with a 3.1 point margin of error.
As the top chart shows, Donald Trump's job approval for this poll is at a record low of only 38% (while 51% disapprove) -- a negative gap of 13 points. Only one group (those over age 65) shows more approving than disapproving -- but even there it's only a 2 point difference (within the poll's margin of error). Among Whites, Trump is about dead even -- with only 1 point separating disapproval over approval. All other groups have a statistically significant amount of disapproval over approval.
But as abysmal as Trump's job approval is, it is better than the public's view of Congress. Only 11% approves of the job Congress is doing, while 57% disapprove (see chart below). It gets slightly better when you break it down into the parties in Congress. The Republicans have 28% approval and the Democrats have 36% approval. The Republicans have 57% disapproval and the Democrats have 49% disapproval.
