If you are of an equivalent vintage to me, you may indeed remember making a Mix Tape. I recall sitting by the (AM) radio, waiting for a favorite song to be played on the Top10 countdown and sweating the fine precision of hitting the record button just in time to capture it forever on tape. A real test of the fine motor skills it was! AND, it really, really, truly used to piss me off if the DJ who announced the song spoke over the opening bars. Arrgghhh, how rude!
Talk about like, just totally like ruining the whole project {insert teenage eye roll right here!!}
You remember, because you made Mix Tapes too right? You’d also recall then that reinforcing wall supports were needed for any shelf that your cassette player was housed on, because that’s just how totally rad and ace and bloody huge and unwieldy those boom-boxes were!
Well, although up in the dusty corners of the shed ….. somewhere ……. I have a box of old cassette tapes and memories, I am unable to part with, this weekend I shall be doing my very best to create THE ultimate Mix CD (yeah, it’s that technology thing …. doesn’t sound quite right does it?) EVER!!!Why? Well to cut a longer story short, one of the gals at work and I were having a little snigger at The Milkshake.You know the song, The Milkshake …….. ”Do the milkshake, the milkshake … do the shake” ……. by The Village People, in these costumes???
source: www.film.com30 Bonus points added to your score if you are humming it, or singing along right now!Well, to continue the tale, it was this short moment of disbelief soon after that floored me.One of the other gals in the office, of suitable vintage
, had no idea what we were referring to.We sang the tune. No recollection. We did the dance moves. Nope, nothing. A true Oh Em Gee moment indeed and an oversight that needed rectifying immediately.So, I looked and searched and googled and You-tubed and then emailed them both a clip of The Milkshake.Hmmmmm. Then I wondered. And realised that my mission may only be starting.If she didn’t know and love The Milkshake, what else then may she be missing?And so, friends, this weekend I shall be compiling a selection of supremely fine tunes to gift them with love on Monday. Each will receive their their very own copy of what will be the awesomest Mix CD in the history of Mixed CDs. And of course, I’ll be making a spare to enjoy in my office!This is the intended play list, tell me what you think …1. YMCA – The Village People (non-negotiable)2.
