There are a few unusual things about the amiibo for Yoshi’s Woolly World. For starters it’s made of wool, also it doesn’t have a base.
While this means he has to perch rather than stand, we think it makes him much more fun to play with. Also the woolen design and soft squishy material makes him (possibly?) the cutest amiibo to date.
The move away from bases in Toys to Life games is also seen in Skylanders Superchargers vehicles and Lego Dimensions allowing players to take the minifigures off the NFC stand.
It’s a good move as these products then work much better as toys as well as a means to access content in the game. Whether this is a temporary trend or something that’s here to stay remains to be seen.
