The Xiaomi POCO M6 Pro Smartphone is a Marvel of Technology

Let’s take a trip into the heart of innovation as we look at the Xiaomi POCO M6 Pro Mobile’s cutting-edge features. From the way it looks to how powerful the tech is, this smartphone is the best.

The Xiaomi Poco M6 Pro is a mid-range smartphone released in January 2024. It has a 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, a MediaTek Helio G99 Ultra processor, 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and 256GB or 512GB of storage. It also has a triple-camera system on the back, consisting of a 64MP main sensor, an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. The front-facing camera is 16MP.

A Big 6.67-inch, 120Hz AMOLED Screen

One of the best things about the Poco M6 Pro is, without a doubt, the screen. Sixty-seven inches across makes it big. With a screen of 1080 x 2400 pixels, it has a normal aspect ratio of 20:9. That means that there are about 395 pixels per inch, which is a very high density.

Even though it has a selfie camera in a hole, the screen looks good in real life. “Flow AMOLED DotDisplay” is what Xiaomi calls this type of AMOLED screen. Xiaomi says the contrast is 5,000,000:1, but because the blacks are so dark, it’s really more like endless.

Before we talk about the 120Hz refresh rate, let’s talk about some of the performance traits of the screen we tried, such as its brightness. The slider gave us a good, but not very impressive, 493 nits of brightness.

The Poco M6 Pro has a real light sensor, unlike the Poco M6, and it does a great job of instantly adjusting the brightness. In our normal tests, it was able to hit a high of 1053 nits. That’s great for the class and gives you enough power to use the M6 Pro outside most of the time without any problems. But you won’t be able to read the screen easily in full sunlight.

Test of the Brightest Screen Setting

At lower light levels, the monitor offers 1920Hz PWM dimming, which should help people with sensitive eyes. Let us explore Xiaomi POCO M6 Pro Mobile

The screen on the Poco M6 Pro doesn’t support HDR. That is, it can process HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision files. Not HDR10+, but everything else. The M6 Pro does have the best Widevine L1 DRM approval, which is good news. This means that apps like Netflix can offer FullHD streams and fill up the screen resolution.

Handling a High Update Rate

The screen on the Poco M6 Pro has a frame rate of 120Hz. In the settings, the phone has a few different refresh rate modes: 60Hz, 120Hz, and a basic mode that says it will switch between modes instantly. There are three different speed rate modes that the phone can use: 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz.

The 60Hz mode works as it should. That’s all it does—locks the frame rate at 60Hz. You can choose between a “custom” 120Hz mode or the usual mode if you want to use a faster frame rate. The unique 120Hz mode has a list of choices for each app that lets you choose which ones can go to 120Hz and which ones should only go to 60Hz. It comes in very handy.

Like 60Hz, 120Hz is not a “locked” mode. It does some switching on its own, like dropping to 60Hz when there is no motion on the screen or when you are not touching it. In general, this is a good way to do things, but it does mean that video playing is usually at 120Hz, which wastes power.

The “default” mode is helpful because it seems to use the same motion and contact reasoning as the 120Hz mode when moving between frame rates. It is smart enough to know when video is being played, though, and drop the frequency to 60Hz as it should.

For the record, the Poco M6 Pro says it supports a 90Hz refresh rate mode, but we have yet to see it actually work in that mode while we were trying it. It went from 120Hz to 60Hz in an instant. It’s not a big loss, but you should still remember it.

We tried high frame rate games on the Poco M6 Pro, and amazingly, it worked really well. We tested games that we know can go faster than 60 frames per second, and they all worked fine in both the default mode and the 120Hz mode.

You might still want to use the second one because it kept the refresh rate a bit more “strictly.” This is because some games, like Alto’s Adventure, dropped to 60Hz when we weren’t tapping the screen to jump, which was very noticeable. This didn’t happen in the Default update rate mode.

In general, Xiaomi’s method for moving between high frame rates is stable and complete. You should always be able to find the right quality between the Default mode and the 120Hz mode with app-specific settings. For everyday use, don’t worry about setting the phone into a different mode.

Before we end the part on frame rate, the Poco M6 Pro has a quick touch sample rate of 2,160Hz.

Time on Battery

The Poco M6 Pro comes with a pretty big 5,000 mAh battery. The Poco M6 Pro’s battery life was pretty good. It was not a great performance, but it was still a good showing. It’s about the same as other new low-cost phones that have the same 5,000 mAh capacity. It actually has a higher Active Use Score than both the Poco C65 and the Poco F5.

The individual test spread on these phones, on the other hand, could be more consistent. The Poco F5 does have a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chipset, but it also has a MediaTek chipset, the same kind as the M6 Pro but slower. It is a MediaTek G85 type. The G99 uses a 6nm TSMC process, which is new.

When we look at the different parts of the test, we can see that the Poco M6 Pro doesn’t stand out in any of them. All in all, it’s fine, but nothing to write home about.

How fast does the Xiaomi Poco M6 Pro charge?

The Poco M6 Pro has Xiaomi Super Charge tech, which charges it very quickly at 67W. This is something new for the Poco M family. This method of charging is common; we’ve seen it a lot in the Poco X and F series phones. It can put out between 5V and 20V at 3.25A to 6.2A and is sometimes called Turbo Fast Charge.

Xiaomi includes a charger that works with the phone and a USB Type-A to Type-C cord that has an extra pin. You should keep both for the fastest charge speeds.

Xiaomi says that these should be very good. Officially, it should take 44 minutes to charge the Poco M6 Pro fully. Most of our tests support that number.

It took us 40 minutes to charge our review unit from empty to 15%, then 30 minutes to 71%, and a full charge took about 48 minutes. It’s alright, especially for a cheap Poco M family phone. We should note, though, that Xiaomi’s 67W tech has been used on other models to make charging faster. It’s not by much, but it’s still important to note.

Public Speakers

The Poco M6 Pro has two sets of speakers. The phone has speaker grills on both the top and bottom ends. So far as we can tell, though, there aren’t two separate speakers. The setup is a combination, with a headphone that has been boosted working as a second speaker. Xiaomi just added another “pathway” for the sound from the earpiece to get out. This makes it much harder to cover up this side of the speaker setup by chance with your palm.

On the other hand, the two speakers are not very well matched. But don’t get us wrong—it still sounds much better than a single-speaker setup.

The M6 Pro is good in terms of quality. When the volume is turned up to its highest level, the highs and vocals definitely ring. The bass, on the other hand, stands out, and the tracks sound full overall.

To make up for its low price, the Poco M6 Pro has Dolby Atmos tuning, which “opens up” the soundstage and gives tracks a more “special” feel. The general quality of the sound isn’t getting worse. Besides the Dolby Atmos switch, there is also a full-featured mixer for you to use.
