Wurstküche, a Los Angeles based restaurant from proprietors Tyler Wilson and Joseph Pitruzzelli, has expanded to Denver. I had the pleasure of paying them a visit just a few days before opening day. My first impression? Impressive selection of beers, delicious sausage and fries, and a welcoming environment.

Wurstküche has a huge selection of sausages, with approximately 18 from which to choose. From traditional bratwurst, duck & bacon, rattlesnake & rabbit, to lamb. And even three vegetarian options.
Vegetarian Smoked Apple Sage Sausage with caramelized onions & sweet peppers. Belgian Fries with dipping sauces: Curry Ketchup, Sweet & Sassy BBQ, Chipotle Aioli, and Pesto Mayo. The beer is a mixture of Westmalle’s Dubbel and their Tripel.
Since I am vegetarian, I of course honed in on the meatless sausages. While I was interested in all 3, I decided on the Smoked Apple Sage: apples, Yukon potatoes, & rubbed sage. I topped it with caramelized onions and sweet peppers. Several mustards are available at the tables; I added two to my sausage: honey and whole grain. Upon my first bite, I was in heaven. This vegetarian sausage was flavorful and–almost more importantly–was not mushy (which unfortunately is all too common with most veggie versions of dogs and burgers). I was thrilled with both the consistency and taste of my sausage. The Belgian Fries were also excellent. Thick yet crisp, with 10 different dipping sauces available. My favorite was the Pesto Mayo!

Wurstküche’s 24 taps are split almost evenly between Belgian and German beers. Additionally, they have many more in bottles. I found the beer list to be more than accommodating. A few of my personal favorites caught my eye, such as Duchesse De Bourgogne, Delirium Tremens, and Houblon Chouffe. And for those who just have to have it, they do offer PBR.

A patio is currently in the works and looks to be a perfect addition to the already spacious restaurant. I’m getting excited for patio season, and this should be a great spot for it!

I truly enjoyed my visit to Wurstküche. I love its downtown location, awesome selection of food & beer, and overall vibe. I’m thrilled to welcome them to Denver and look forward to seeing much more of them in the near future. If you like sausage, fries and beer, check them out! They open on Monday, February 23rd!
