Writing Challenge 60

By Brian Abbott

Raw escargot!

Creepy, crawly critters loom in our imaginations, sometimes fueling our fears and nightmares. Yet there is a fascination with such creatures, drawing our attention, piquing our curiosity to discover more about them. How can they co-exist with us but seem so alien? Imagine these gastropods as large land striders used as transportation in a fantasy realm or on a distant planet. Or think back to being a child discovering these slow-moving molluscs. And, of course, consider the gastronomy of a plate of escargot.

What will you write?

Snail on tree bark

Each month, The Poisoned Martini presents a photo to spark your creativity. Because of their visual nature, images vividly speak to writers and spark ideas for writing.  View the photo above, ponder what you see, and then put pen to paper or finger to keyboard.  Write a scene, a short story, a chapter, a novella, or maybe even a novel.

Last month’s challenge featured a photo, taken in August 2014, of a medieval tower in the town of Lucerne, Switzerland. The structure is part of the town’s medieval wall, which visitors can climb up to and walk along. Though I wouldn’t recommend that to acrophobes.
