Sound crazy? It may have been, but it was the right decision. I ended being introduced to a whole new career path that had not been available to me before, fell in love, and met new friends and acquaintances that have allowed me to grow beyond expectation. At the time all my options seemed equal with opportunities and uncertainties, but now I understand why I didn’t have much hesitation in taking this path.
Wonderland Magazine recently interviewed JK Rowling for her upcoming movie script Fantastic Beasts and Where They Come From. During the interview, Rowling touched on aspects of the Harry Potter story lines and divulged that she had second guessings regarding the viability of the relationship between Hermoine Granger and Ron Weasley stating that Hermoine may have been a better match for Harry instead.
This is all Potter fans needed to hear in order to start an uproar online taking to blogs, Twitter, Facebook and even online publications calling for a retraction of her statements.
@andpop Sorry, J.K. Rowling, but we full heartedly believe Ron & Hermione belong together. #HarryPotter #Potterheads
@MTV Are you team Hermione & Ron, team Hermione & Harry, or just team Hermione in general? #HarryPotter
Because of all the outrage and speculation that Rowling’s comments created, Mugglenet.com decided to go ahead and publish the entire article online so fans could get the full conversation.
“Oh, maybe she and Ron will be alright with a bit of counseling, you know. I wonder what happens at wizard marriage counseling? They’ll probably be fine. He needs to work on his self-esteem issues and she needs to work on being a little less critical.”
So what was my reaction when I heard that Rowling was thinking “Potter heresy”? I quote my email to a friend just a few hours after the news broke:
“She’s smoking crack because Harry and Ginny are the perfect couple even if Hermione and Ron aren’t. :)”
There you go. Just another avid fan’s opinion of a potential George Lucas moment. Truth be told, there probably are some better matches for Hermoine in the Potter series, but Hermoine and Harry have always had a sibling-type relationship and I found it refreshing in a literary world where a boy and a girl can’t just be friends for long (i.e. the Twilight love triangle, Hunger Games love triangle and Divergent love story) that they kept it platonic and remained life-long friends. Ultimately the right choice by Rowling.
Do you think JK Rowling should have changed the original plotline or are you happy with the way things ended in the Harry Potter Series?
