A seven-year-old Lhasa Apso named Elizabeth may have won the Best in Show at the Crufts dog show at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre this weekend but it is Libby, a five-year-old cross-breed, who has bitten off the most Monday morning headlines.

That’s because Libby careered to a shuddering halt half way through her Crufts agility course to, err, take a (much-needed) bathroom break. And it was a number two too. The unfortunate incident was a shame for Libby and her owner as, up until she paused to relieve herself, she had performed immaculately over the strenuous agility course. To compound the red-faced dog’s owners’ embarrassment, the incident occurred in front of 6,000 spectators.

The commentators saw the funny side and quipped: “A dog’s got to do what a dog’s got to do. What a shame. Disqualified – and it was a good run too.”
