ABOUT: A bit of info from Odell:
To celebrate our 30th anniversary we’re bringing back our renowned Woodcut Series. For each release, freshly made barrels provide a blank canvas of oak flavor. Woodcut #9 is an Imperial IPA aged in medium-toast American oak barrels which imparts notes of vanilla, almond and dried fruit, while massive dry-hopping adds vibrant tropical fruit aromas, combining to create a beautifully complex ale. Cheers to 30 years!
MY THOUGHTS: It was so refreshing to learn about the release of this beer. In the midst of the haze craze, it makes me incredibly happy to see a classic style Imperial IPA. And even better: it’s barrel-aged! Woodcut #9, the latest in Odell’s Cellar Series, features a plethora of oaky flavor, and—at least to this IPA drinker—is not bitter, instead offering a slight vanilla sweetness. It’s been a very long time since I’ve had a barrel-aged IPA, and this beer is everything I could have hoped for. Woodcut #9 is an outstanding Imperial IPA, and oak was the perfect choice of barrel for it.
Get yours now while Palisade peaches are still in season: Odell suggests pairing this IPA with shrimp and peach kabobs. Or try it with Shepards Pie or Chocolate Truffles (note to self: go buy another bottle of Woodcut #9 and some truffles!)
