Gorgeous. Every now and then, something wonderful results from something ignorant, careless, and terrible. It's so exceedingly rare, though, that as a species we should really stop intentionally doing the latter while expecting the former. Feel it, how soft it was.
Glass beach is a section of Coastline in Mackerricher state park in California. After world war ii, it was used as a public dump for two decades until local officials halted the practice. Since that time, the waves have worn smooth the glass shards disposed on the shore. However sad is the original cause, the result is quite pretty.

Beginning in 1949, the area around glass beach became a public dump. It is hard to imagine this happening today, but back then people dumped all kinds of refuse straight into the ocean, including old cars, and their household garbage, which of course included lots of glass. more
