A woman climbed the Statue of Liberty on the 4th of July to protest Trump’s family separation policy.
Via CNN:
For nearly two hours, authorities tried to talk the woman identified as Therese Patricia Okoumou down from the statue, but she refused.
Okoumou who is affiliated with the Rise & Resist movement told police that she wasn’t coming down until all the children were released.
A spokesperson for the National Park Service said she was taken into Federal custody, after the police used climbing gear to rescue her.
Martin Joseph Quinn, an organizer for Rise & Resist told CNN, that climbing was not part of the planned protest. “She climbed without our knowledge. It was not part of our action,” Quinn said.
