One of my early favorite artists died this past Wednesday at the age of 84: the sculptor, John Chamberlain. I remember wandering the galleries in New York City when I was an art student at Cooper Union. When I saw his huge multi-colored crushed car sculptures, it was a revelation. I couldn't take my eyes off them.
Chamberlain helped me to see that abstract art was my calling. That was a gift.
I'll be celebrating Hannukah and Christmas with family this year. We're filling the house with light and strong smells of delicious food to get us through these short dark winter days.
I often suffer depression during this holiday time, and think about all those for whom this time of year is hard, emotionally and physically. Let's hold them in our hearts.
