Widowspeak – “True Believer”

Widowspeak have just released this darling new track from their upcoming EP The Swamps, and it marks a change of engagement from the southern-style charm’s of this year’s Almanac. Departing from the elaborate chord progressions and high-winding guitar parts of Widowspeak’s earlier output, “True Believer” is a hazy, atmospheric pop song centered on Molly Hamilton’s criss-crossing vocals interacting with an elastic bass part. “True Believer” sounds almost like a jugband version of a Twin Sister song, and it marks a surprising – though not unwelcome – development in Widowspeak’s sound.
