More sensitive to damage
Wet hair is more vulnerable to all kinds of damage than dry hair, such as split ends and breakage. When you go to sleep with wet hair and have been over your pillow, your hair can break, tangle or even fall out. And that’s not all, because your hair also dries in a strange way, so there is a good chance that you will have to pull out some tricks to prevent a bad hair day. This makes your hair more porous and brittle, which can lead to split ends.
Swelling hair shaft
If you go to sleep with wet hair, some of the water will remain in your hair for a longer period of time. As a result, the shaft of your hair can swell and become extra sensitive. This is also the reason that brushing wet hair is not recommended. The shaft of your hair is the part of your hair that grows outside your scalp and thus what you see. You can compare your hair to roof tiles. If you blow-dry your hair smooth, the roof tiles will all lie neatly over each other in the same direction. When you go to sleep with wet hair, the hair cuticles (the roof tiles) go in all directions, creating a chaotic, unkempt look. And you don’t want that, do you?
Wearing wet hair
After the previous points, you may think it is better to put your wet hair in a braid, bun or ponytail for the night. Unfortunately, this is also not recommended. In your sleep you turn regularly and because of this there is a chance that the hairs, at the point where your elastic is, break off. In addition, the moisture does not evaporate well, which can even lead to hair loss!
Headache
Going to sleep with wet hair can even give you a headache. During your brake slat, your body temperature rises, but because your hair is wet, your head stays cooler. This difference in temperature affects the blood circulation in your head, which can cause tension headaches. That’s not how you want to start your day.
Bacteria in your pillow
There are already quite a few bacteria on your pillow, but it only really becomes a party when you lie on it with your lukewarm, wet hair. This won’t make you sick, but you can get dandruff, acne or other skin irritations
Sleeping with to? No, so it doesn’t. Of course it’s not a problem if you occasionally sleep with wet hair or your hair in a bun, braid or ponytail, but don’t make it a habit. In the longer term, the consequences to your hair are really visible and tangible. From now on, let your hair dry well before you go to bed. Your locks of hair will thank you!
