With admittedly nothing better to do when I got up early this morning, I turned to Facebook and stumbled upon this page about memoirs from the 80’s. Being a child of that decade, I couldn’t help but feel all nostalgic when I saw photos of Doogie Howser, M.D. and of toys I used to play with back then.
My penchant for the past doesn’t end there, though. Oftentimes, I find myself dreaming of being born in older times like the Victorian era. I figured that the closest thing to making that wish ever come true is by getting me a few pieces of reproduction furniture.
Some might raise an eyebrow, thinking that buying replica pieces is an absurd idea. That couldn’t be further from the truth.
One advantage to choosing reproduction furniture is that you can get that certain antique look you desire without breaking the bank. Moreover, you don’t have to spend a lot of time scouring the universe just to find genuine pieces.
This doesn’t mean though, that you have no other choice but to settle for cheaper furniture. You can still get the design you want by looking around for a skilled craftsman who has a knack for replicas. He can manufacture furniture pieces with designs inspired by your era or style of preference. Just be sure to emphasize that he still has to use quality materials.
If you find that your friendly neighborhood craftsman can’t meet your demands, you can always look online for furniture makers who specialize in reproduction furniture. As with any online transaction, be sure that you’re dealing with legitimate individuals or companies.
Now, I feel inclined towards the Art Deco period. I wouldn’t mind buying a stunning chair to give my living room some flair- at least before I give birth next week!
