According to a recently submitted story on Customer Connect, Fleetmatics fleet tracking has once again helped stop criminals in their tracks. Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Middle Georgia had doubts about putting a GPS tracker on their brand new tractor. They had an appointment set for an installer come out and put units on a couple of new trucks they had acquired. As fate would have it, the night before the installer showed up, their oldest running van gave up on them. The next day they had the tracking unit from the old truck installed on their new tractor, just for the heck of it.
Fast forward to a month later, when David Brassell of Mr. Rooter arrives to the shop and notices something is amiss. The flood lights were mysteriously off and the new tractor was gone. Since the company runs 24-hours a day, he asked around if any of the employees knew where the tractor was. No one did. He checked Fleetmatics Live Fleet and the tractor was showing up 20 miles away from the shop. Upon further inspection of the flood lights, he noticed they had been smashed… possibly even shot out with a gun. He called the police and headed to the last known location of the tractor.
The police and Brassell arrived at the scene at the same time. They soon realized they were at a police officer’s house. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that two on-duty police officers stole the tractor in the middle of the night. ” I guess they were unfortunate in that they stole the only tracked tractor in the entire city,” said Brassell. The police officers are now facing 15 combined convictions. Thanks to Mr. Rooter and Fleetmatics, investigators are hopeful that more stolen equipment will be recovered on the property.
