Why Long Distance Relationships May Fail

By Tapang786

Distance might make hearts grow fonder, but in some cases, it can tear people apart too. Long distance relationships are certainly tougher to keep than relationships that are forged between partners who are geographically closer.

It takes a lot of emotional investment to prevent such a relationship from going downhill. Be realistic and keep in mind these factors that might make distance cause a break-up:

1. When It Stops being a priority

When a couple embraces distance, they would normally be making extra efforts to make the relationship transcend all barriers. They would be expected to make it a topmost priority in their lives, come rain or shine. But with time if one of the partners is loath to give the long-distance relationship top priority, alarm bells might start ringing.

2. When little things you do for each other stop

Relationship experts say that in long-distance liaisons, couples put a lot of emphasis on doing seemingly insignificant and foolish things for each other. For instance, they might send each other little gifts or exchange postal cards from time to time for no apparent reason. Or they might be recording songs or messages for each other. But when these little sweet nothings stop, it might indicate that the spark is slowly dying.

3. When partners take a longer time to respond

Skype, phone calls, WhatsApp messages are a constant in a long distance couple’s lives. One would normally expect to be connected in such ways 24/7 in a long distance relationship. But when calls and messages get less frequent, Skyping gets shorter and busy life becomes an excuse for everything, it’s time to notice the red flag.

4. It’s an unreal world

In a long distance relationship, there can be unrealistic expectations. Or you can have an idealized version of your long distance beloved and you’d refuse to see anything negative in him. Sometimes one can just go on living in a make-believe world and cut off friends and family in real life. If you are losing a grip on reality while engaging in a long distance relationship, you might be in for a heartbreak.

5. No Future Planning

Let’s face it, in any long-distance relationship, one would normally expect that someday she would be with her beloved in the same place and in the same time zone. Ideally, long-distance couples should discuss a future where they would be together, for better or worse. If no such planning is in sight, then the distance is certainly taking its toll on the relationship.
