Walk with the Animals
If you fancy yourself as a bit of a Dr Dolittle, then the Isle of Wight is perfect for you. With the Owl and Monkey Haven, Seaview Wildlife Encounter, Isle of Wight Zoo and more, there is nothing that the Isle can’t offer. If you’re lucky, and you look closely enough, you might even get to see a red squirrel in one of the parks.
The Isle of Wight has a reputation when it comes to extinct animals too. Considered one of the richest areas for dinosaurs in Europe, it has been crowned the Dinosaur Capital of the UK by the Natural History Museum. It therefore has lots of ways that you can discover dinosaurs and their fossils through hunts and trails, and the Dinosaur experience at Blackgang Chine is not to be missed if you’re a fan of dinosaurs.
The Natural Landscape
Almost half of the Isle of Wight is protected as an Area of Natural Beauty, so you know it must be good. Dominated by chalk, the most famous landmark of the island, the Needles, are bright white and beautiful to behold. The north cliffs are clay, with salt marshes and mud flats that change into sandy bays, sandstone and chalk cliffs as you travel to the south of the island. This means that the Isle of Wight is bio-diverse both for animals and fauna and flora. You can discover the natural beauty of the island through one of the many walks that have been created across the island.
Watery Pursuits
Being a rather small island, the inhabitants are in love with the sea. Whether it’s sailing, swimming, watersports, fishing or beachcombing, there are so many ways to enjoy the water on the Isle of Wight. You can go on a cruise and enjoy the island’s beautiful landscape, such as the Needles, from the water. Alternatively, if you can’t find your sea legs you can stay on land and soak up some sun on the beach.
Free Things
There are many free things to do on the Isle of Wight, from taking a walk along the Tennyson Trail to the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary. So if you’re a little bit strapped for cash, then it shouldn’t be a problem here.
Exciting Food Experiences
There’s nothing wrong with good old pub grub, sometimes you really do need a pint and a plate of chips, but if you’re feeling a little bit more adventurous than that, then there are restaurants on the island that boast incredible cuisine. From The Hut, with its overnight success and inexpensive food, to On The Rocks where your food is served on hot volcanic rock, Isle of Wight isn’t just about boring old pub grub.
