Why do you have to turn off your cell phone while it is charging?

One of the main reasons why it is advisable to turn off your mobile phone while charging is related to notifications. Since the phone can receive calls, messages and perform all sorts of processes when it is on, the battery can be consumed while it is charging. This leads to a slower loading time. While turned off, while charging, the power will only go to your cell phone battery, so the charging time will be shortened.

Also, according to the Tech Advisor site, since the phone won’t be turned on while charging, it will prevent so-called “parasitic charges”. This same site states that if you charge your phone while using it, you can “disturb” the battery, as you create mini charge cycles during which parts of the battery are continually recycled. These parts can therefore deteriorate faster than the rest of the other cells in the battery.

If you’re tempted to use your cell phone while it’s charging, power will be drawn from elsewhere, such as the screen and processor, rather than the battery. Due to this, the mobile phone may overheat.

If you prefer to keep your phone on while charging, you can try another method to reduce battery consumption and speed up the process: turn on Airplane mode. This disables phone functions that require power and will continue to drain your phone’s battery when charging, this way it will charge faster.

This is especially effective if you’re in an area with poor reception, as a lack of signal is one of the main causes of battery drain.

Should you turn off your phone at night?

Your smartphone’s battery life is directly impacted by the frequency and duration of its charge cycles. According to studies, it is advisable to charge your smartphone regularly rather than letting it completely discharge before recharging to maintain a longer lifespan. For this reason, some manufacturers recommend charging your smartphone when it reaches 30% battery remaining. It is also important to note that unlike older nickel-cadmium batteries, today’s lithium-ion batteries do not need to be fully discharged before recharging.
