The 3 final nominees have been chosen for the FIFA Ballon d’Or award and they are Messi, Iniesta and Ronaldo.
I suppose it was on the cards with these top three players being chosen and it looks like being a close contest this year. Messi is favorite as he just keeps breaking records and there is no stopping the little Argentine. Iniesta, for his role in the Euro 2012 Championships and club level and Cristiano Ronaldo who had an outstanding last season and helped his team to win the league title.
It’s going to be a close contest for sure but we’ll have to wait for January 7th 2013 to come around to find out.
Leo Messi has already broken the great Brazilian Pele’s record from 1958 when he played for Santos. Pele knocked in 75 goals in that year. Messi is on an incredible 82 goals and has the great Gerd Müller in his sight. Müller scored an incredible 85 goals for Germany and his club Bayern Munich in 1972. Messi still has a few games to accomplish this task and looks set to break the German’s long standing record.
Whatever the outcome, we have just over a month till we find out on January 7th. Will Messi claim his fourth FIFA Ballon d’Or award or will Cristiano Ronaldo claim a second? Maybe it’s the turn of Andrés Iniesta to claim the coveted award. Let’s wait and find out.
