White Women Can’t Hip Hop

At least the white women in my family can’t hip hop.  White men can’t jump and white women can’t hip hop.  It’s just the way it is.  I have come to terms with it.  But none the less I have been boogieing my butt off to rap music which I actually can’t stand while playing The Hip Hop Dance Experience for the Wii.

And I got the kids involved.  Well, mostly my oldest daughter, but with the Wii located in the living room chances are the rest of the kids are going to want to join in.  And while the game is rated T for Teen I did allow my non teens to participate.

It was rated T because of lyrics, partial nudity, suggestive themes, and use of alcohol and tobacco.  I must admit I didn’t listen to the lyrics much as I was trying to concentrate on the movements, but I didn’t hear anything bad.  I completely missed the partial nudity and the alcohol and tobacco and the suggestive themes I didn’t find to all that suggestive.

The Game

Hip Hop Dance Experience from Ubisoft is just like you would imagine.  It’s a dance game.  It is for up to four players.  You only need the normal Wii remote.  However, it says that is is compatible with Wii Motion Plus.  So if you have that maybe it will enhance the experience.  I do not have it.

There are four game modes.  Dance Party where you just dance along with up to 3 other friends.  Power Skooling is a chance to learn the dance moves.  Dance Battle is a multi-player mode where you’re competing for the highest score, but you can also steal points from your opponent.  Dance Marathon you basically dance until you drop.  This mode shows you how many calories you have burned.

Here’s how I have been doing with burning calories.

The music on Hip Hop Dance Experience is rap.  It says it has 30 hit tracks, but I wasn’t familiar with them and neither were my children.  That isn’t saying much though because I am not a rap fan and neither are my children.

Our Experience

However, I am a fan of getting up and moving and dancing is fine even if I’m awful at the moves.  And this one was interesting in how they show you the dance moves.  With the Just Dance games you are looking at the dancers on the screen from the front only.  However, in Hip Hop Dance Experience they have one person with his back to you and the other person facing you.  So you get two angles to see how the dance moves are done.  Not that I could get some of those feet moves, but it was fun none the less.  For me anyways.  My daughter didn’t like it because she didn’t recognize the music and wanted to do the dances exactly right.

I think she was being kind of a party pooper though.  Because I didn’t know the dances and certainly couldn’t do the moves just right, but I did what I could.  Who cares, we were in our living room.

While it wasn’t really our thing, I do think this is a fun game for the most part.  Even if my daughter disagrees.  I think she would have felt a lot different if she recognized the music.  But for our family Just Dance games seem to be a bigger hit because we recognize the music.

It has been a fun workout for me to do even if not all of the kids are getting into it with me.  I think my almost 2 year old and my 5 year old liked it more than their older sisters.  They were trying to do the moves too.

I’m going to spare you images of this white girl trying to hip hop.  Because really you shouldn’t be subjected to that.  And it might have something to do with me being slightly embarrassed.  But really I’m sure you can imagine what a sight I must be.
