Should I Or Shouldn’t I
Do you struggle with making decisions? Last night I was trying to decide if I should go to Whispers of Hope horse farm and volunteer in the morning. I was going back and forth, wondering if this was something I should or shouldn’t be doing. Gerald, Miranda’s husband, calls this squirreling. Running back and forth in the middle of the road, unsure of what to do, and then… nothing good happens. :/
Although volunteering is a good thing, I wondered if I was doing it for the right reasons, if this was where I should be volunteering, and if I had anything to offer to the therapeutic riding facility. I questioned if I should call or just show up, if I should put it off till next week, or if I should look into doing something else. Maybe I should do homework, or clean the house, and on, and on.
When I woke up this morning I was still contemplating. After texting my mom, and reading my bible, I decided that I was up, I was ready, I should just go. If anything I could commit to a schedule while I was there.
Personal Growth
John Maxwell often says that leaving your comfort zone, is a way to instigate personal growth. My fear of failure and the unknown make me uncomfortable. Fear squelches great potential. Maxwell says, “Feed your faith and starve your fear.” There is no room for both!
Whispers of Hope
You might have guessed it already, but I did end up going. I worked with Janice cleaning stalls and doctoring horses. I think I dumped about 20 barrels of muck this morning (strength workout, check!). I also saddled up a horse named Gussie so she could watch me ride for a bit.
Classes with challenged kids are in the afternoon, and soldiers in the Wounded Warrior program come Friday mornings. I decided that working with the horses was great, no problem. What strikes my confidence is wondering what if I am not good with the kids, or what if I mess up.
This morning I did feel like I was helpful, which in my opinion is what you want to feel as a volunteer. I loved that I might be making someone’s life a little easier by cleaning stalls. Even though I am still nervous, I am going to continue volunteering there, while I am blessed with so much time to do so!
Workout
When I got home, I ran a short and sweet 3 miles.
