Morocco is a unique country in North Africa in that it has all of the features of a Mediterranean country, the beautiful Sahara desert, significant Islamic influence, and so much more. To consider that the country has all of these features rolled up into one amazing destination makes it perfectly understandable why holidays to Morocco are so popular in recent years! Relive Casablanca in Casablanca
While in Casablanca, checking out the Islamic influence in the country is an absolute must with a visit to the Hassan II Mosque. This enormous mosque, the 7th largest in the world, is located right on the Atlantic providing not only great views of the sea, but of itself as well. But unlike most other popular religious buildings in the world, this particular mosque has only been around for about 20 years and has many modern amenities that were not available in previous centuries including heated floors and a sliding roof. Look up at night, as this beautiful mosque shines a light towards mecca after the sun goes down. A perfect way to end a day in Casablanca. (Photo "Mosque Casablanca" by jenniewn)
Head to the Sahara
Saharan Morocco is often considered to be the highlight of all visitor's trips to the country as you are able to head out into the pristine vastness of the Saharan desert in any matter you see fit! Between camel excursions, visiting many small villages, and watching the stars at night in the middle of the desert, you cannot go wrong with any option that you pick. From one night to as many as you can afford, this is one destination that the photos really do the talking. (Photo - "The Camel Series 3" by stoneraven, Photo - "Camels at the Kasbah" by MEJones)
The Blue City of Chefchaouen
For those who want to get out of the city, hiking in the nearby Rif Mountains is a popular activity with many opportunities to view the city from high above. Be careful; however, as these mountains are said to be home to marijuana plantations. While the growers will not be as mean as in other regions, it may be best to use a guide for this particular day trip just in case. (Photo "Chefchaouen Hamam" by Adambrowne)
Get Around Morocco
Traveling around Morocco is a relatively easy task with trains and buses being the primary modes of transportation for visitors. While trains are great for their ease of use, the network in Morocco only services a few of the major cities. For those looking to get out to smaller cities then local and tourist buses are your best choice. With these, most all cities within easy reach!
Whether you visit Morocco for the desert, Islamic culture, beautiful cities, or the delicious food, one thing is for certain; you will have an amazing time. This is one country where the allure is well deserved and those who come back immediately begin planning their next visit.
