The countdown has started! After the Grand Opening on 1 October Het Scheepvaartmuseum,( the National Maritime Museum), will reopen its doors on 2 October. Het Scheepvaartmuseum reopens after an extensive renovation of 4 years. The building from 1656 – now with a spectacularly glass-roof, has regained all the splendour of the Dutch Golden Age.

Het Scheepvaartmuseum has one of the largest maritime collections in the world, and now the top pieces from this treasure trove are spotlighted in a series of fascinating interactive exhibits inviting you to experience five centuries of maritime history for yourself. From  paintings to personal snapshots telling real human stories (The Photo Albums), each exhibit has its own, unique atmosphere.

Interesting for young people!

Het Scheepvaartmuseum has specially created some exhibits with young people in mind: now they can learn about the Golden Age, the whaling trade and the development of the port of Amsterdam in innovative, interactive ways. And an very special experience for our youngest visitors awaits – Sal and Lori and Circus at Sea, for children up to age of 6. They also provide a virtual adventure on the high seas, where you will meet historical figures and experience what they had to endure through storms and sea battles.
