What You Should Know About Human Behavior

By Albert Wagner @albertwagner4

Have you had a verbal disagreement with someone today (or recently)?
Unfortunately it is a normal part of the human experience that we go through frequently.
Sometimes it can be one of those things that gets you to think.  It gets you to think about whether you said the wrong thing or whether you made into a bigger deal than it was.  You think to yourself that you would take back what you said, if you could.
This post tries to put things in perspective with the realization that people are not ALL bad or ALL good.
Too often people raise their voice at someone who bothers or offends them.  It is bound to happen at some point.
The problem, however, is when people tend to paint over the other person as ALL bad and look at themselves as ALL good.  Since it is Lent season it is a good time to discuss issues such as this.
As it was put in the blog www.marcandangel.com people tend to view others by their behavior and view themselves by their ideals of what they think they should be.
For example, it is easy to criticize someone who think has discriminated against you.  However, do we stop and think that we might have done something they didn't like first?  At times like these is it difficult to remember that we are not perfect, either.
Dictator Josef Stalin was once a Seminarian training to be an Orthodox Priest, for example.
To expand on the quote from www.marcandangel.com it is easier to be aware of the sins of others than it is the sins of ourselves.  We don't like to look at ourselves in that way.
People have Good And Bad In Them
The most evil person has some good characteristic if you search enough.  This will likely be a controversial statement, but even Adolf Hitler had some good qualities, if you think about it.  He was a vegetarian who didn't like harming animals, he cared about his own people enough to take responsibility and he tried to get them out of difficult financial times.  He took it too far.
This brings up an interesting point:
A big difference between humans is the level of good and bad that is expressed.
It goes without saying that people you think are "good" also have some areas that are less than good.
In fact, "good" and "bad" are relative words in themselves and it is not always as easy as it sounds to know what "good" is.  The classic example is telling a female she looks good in a dress when you don't really think that.  What is good?
In the following instances what is "good"?
- Following the crowd or going your own way?
- Helping the less fortunate for the wrong reasons, such as accolades?
- The good things we didn't do?
Isn't that part of the Lenten season?  It is about self reflection, and preparing for a miraculous event.
HAPPY LENTEN SEASON
