What WordPress Theme Is That? – An Easy Way To Find Out

Posted on the 08 June 2021 by Nirmalkumar1997

Whenever you visit a new WordPress site with an attractive design, you get a question in your mind “What WordPress theme is that site using?

You might scroll to the bottom of the website to check if it has any details about the theme. Many websites mention it in the footer.

What about the website that doesn’t mention it? How to find it out?

What WordPress Theme Is That Site Using?

Now, let’s see how we can find a WordPress theme using some simple techniques.

1) WPTD (WPThemeDetector)

I have found an easy tool online to detect the WordPress theme. It’s called WPThemeDetector. This tool doesn’t guarantee that it will catch themes of all WordPress sites but finds out in maximum cases.

Now let’s detect some themes.

Visit WPThemeDetector.

And enter the website URL, for which you want to find out the theme, and click “Experience the Magic of WPTD!”. Wait for few seconds and see the magic. In this case, we will be looking at the OnlineMediaMasters website.

As you can see above, the tool just gave us all the data we need. In this case, they are using a WordPress theme called OMM 2021. The tool can also display some of their installed/activated WordPress plugins too.

WPTD is the popular way to check an active theme of a website.

2) Look At The Footer

Some free and premium WordPress theme authors will add a link inside the website footer. You can check the website’s footer for that. For example, the Newspaper WordPress theme by tagDiv is one of the popular themes in the market. Plus, it is used by millions of users globally.

So when someone uses that theme on their website, the theme will display its name in the website’s footer.

So without using any third-party websites or tools, you can identify the WordPress theme of a website. Sadly, some WordPress themes will not add their name inside the footer. If you are not seeing the theme name or theme developer name, they are not adding it or the website admin just removed it.

In that case, follow the next method.

3) View Page Source

Browsers like Google Chrome come with a view source option and inspect element tool. Inspect Element is a popular tool among developers and bloggers. They use it to view the source code and debug errors.

However, we can still use the view source option to check the website’s active theme.

If you are using Google Chrome, visit the website on a tab. In this case, we will be visiting the OptinMonster website.

Use CTRL + U for checking the source code. On the other hand, you can also right-click on the page and select the view source option.

Now, you will see the HTML version of the page there.

Checking the code manually and finding the WordPress theme might be a challenging task. But with chrome’s inbuilt search feature, we can see the theme name!

For using the search feature, use the CTRL + F combination.

Inside the search bar, search for /themes/.

If you take a closer look at the line, you will see the active theme name.

Like this, you can find the theme of any website. In this case, OptinMonster developers are using a custom theme for their website. On the other hand, if someone uses a publicly available theme on their website, you will see it there.

Wrapping Up

Apart from finding out the themes, this tool also finds out a few plugins the website is using currently. So, by checking out the plugins and Themes of your competitors, you can be one step ahead of your competitors. The WPTD website is a simple way to find a WordPress theme. You can also check the website’s footer to find the active theme.

If the WPTD website can’t find an active theme, it might be a custom theme. Then, you have to follow the view page source method. We hope you have found this article helpful and enjoyed the read. If you did, please consider sharing this post with your friends and fellow bloggers on social media.
