Last week, I talked about two British films with aging characters, The Lady in the Van and 45 Years. Heather reviewed a sweet romance, The Cosy Tea Shop in the Castle. Jackie shared photos from a 2001 trip to Ireland, including intriguing castles. Jean has four posts up about her recent trip to the UK, starting with this one that begins with the Tardis, ends on Platform 9 3/4, and hits the Tower of London and the British Museum in between. George gives us photos of Salisbury Cathedral and the surrounding village and countryside. With all due excitement, Sim takes us to 84 Charing Cross Road on her fantasy walk in London, only to be sorely disappointed by its present-day incarnation. Becky reviewed Bleak House by Charles Dickens, enjoying her second look at this hefty novel.
I looked up Britishisms for surprise this week and went with “What the dickens!” since it reminded me of the British TV series Grantchester.
My surprise this week was my husband’s bout of appendicitis. He’s home from the hospital, minus an appendix, and doing well. But, my week didn’t include much time to write up a British Isles Friday post. I didn’t want to miss every one else’s British adventures this week, so this is just a placeholder for the link list. Can’t wait for the lovely distraction of reading your posts.
