In my teens I was obsessed with movie soundtracks and my MP3 Player (old school) was full of weird and wonderful tracks that no one else knew. I don’t know why this phase didn’t follow me into my twenties, maybe it’s because I don’t spend my Saturday’s pottering around HMV or because the films I watch today don’t move me as much with their music. I went to watch Gone Girl last week and I couldn’t tell you one single thing about the music. So when Currys asked me to write about my favorite movie soundtrack I was only too happy to reminisce. I used to have a thing for horror films and I owned soundtracks to all of my favourites. Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Faculty but in my collection you could also find The Wedding Singer, Dirty Dancing, Titanic (I had a poster too, don’t judge) and the American Pie soundtrack. However, there is only one movie soundtrack that still features on my Ipod today and it’s this one.
There are so many reasons why I loved and still love Cruel Intentions. The fact that Sebastian was the hottest man alive and he owned a journal. The fact that Pacey was in it and the fact that Reese and Ryan were dating in real life when they filmed the movie. Not forgetting Sarah Michelle Gellar’s deliciously dark performance.
Right now, the film is 15 years old. *cries* Even though this soundtrack dates back to 1999, it features some of my favorite self indulgent songs ever. Placebo, Skunk Anansie, Counting Crows, Blur and The Verve are just a few that I love. It boasts tracks that still feature in my sleep playlist to this very day. Trust me, if you like to fall asleep to a playlist, you need this one in your life. This one by Placebo is the best road trip song ever and Secretly is one of those when you have a glass of wine and are feeling a bit dramatic. But the main reason this soundtrack is my absolute fave is the track color blind by Counting Crows. It’s my favorite scene in the movie and women worldwide probably feel the same. It literally takes me back to watching this movie in the cinema and the two thousand times after that on DVD.Did I mention I’m a sucker for a romantic airport scene? The escalator, THAT SHIRT. You can relive it here. Go on, I know you want to.
This is my entry for the #CurrysMovieNight competition to win a Bose Solo 15 Soundstage! What’s your favorite movie soundtrack?
