What’s the Best You Can Do TODAY?

By Jenny Evans @PowerHousePC

My back has been bugging me for weeks, along with having more general muscle soreness and a longer period of time needed to recover from workouts. I finally made appointments with my chiropractor, massage therapist and rheumatologist to try and figure out what’s going on. (Good lord, it takes a team of people to keep me going!)

Before I could get to any of them, my back went completely out. I couldn’t move and was in a lot of pain. In addition, I wasn’t sleeping well, had a lot of anxiety about what is going on with my body, and wasn’t able to workout – my #1 way of dealing with stress. I was an absolutely vile person to everyone.

Today I’m finally able to start moving in a close-to-upright position and decided to figure out how to get some type of exercise. I started thinking…what’s the best I can do today?

I got on my mountain bike so I could sit in more of an upright position and went up and down this hill eight times.

I swear this is much larger in real life.

It was the best I could today.

Tomorrow? I have no idea. I’ll have to see how I’m feeling and come up with a plan to adapt.

We face obstacles to living healthy, resilient lives every day. There’s always something: A deadline that got moved up. Family obligations. Travel. An injury or illness.

But there’s always something we can do. Maybe we go for a short walk instead of having that cigarette. Perhaps we only eat half the french fries. Maybe we go to bed fifteen minutes early. We take the stairs instead of the elevator. It might not be what we ultimately strive for, but it’s the best we can do that day.

You certainly face challenges each day, but you’re a strong, intelligent, motivated person. So tell me, what’s the best you’re going to do TODAY?
