What’s So Great About Google Chromecast?

Google unveiled this new gadget called Chromecast during the new Nexus announcement event. It was a tiny device that looked like a wireless Internet dongle and everyone started to talk so many good things about it. So, I asked myself what’s so great about this thing? Then I started looking for answers and found that this device is actually one of a kind. Now, I’m going to share those answers with you, just to let you know how cool this device is.

What is Google Chromecast?

Chromecast is basically a web streaming device that brings videos from the web to your TV. And it also works with smartphones and tablets too, allowing you to stream videos to TV via apps like YouTube, Netflix and Google Play using the mobile devices as a remote control. This is like a much improved version of Google’s failed project, Nexus Q.

Since Google is making the device, you may think that Chromecast only works with Android devices. Well, you’re wrong. This device works with iOS devices as well.

How does it work?

After plugging in the Chromecast to your TV’s HDMI port you can easily stream 1080p content from your mobile with a single touch. Currently it works with Netflix, YouTube, Google Play and Chrome desktop browser. Each of these apps have a “Cast” button on top of them allowing you to send the content to your television. But, don’t worry, you don’t have to keep your mobile device on until it streams onto TV because Chromecast pulls its’ content from the cloud. You just have to give the command.

Why you should buy it?

Well, for starters it costs only $35 USD. I mean how cheap is that. It’s like Gizmodo says, “You’d be crazy not to buy Google Chromecast”. Mostly because it beats all the other steaming devices in the market like $99-dollar Apple TV and Roku.

“Third-party streaming boxes are dead, why would you spend $100 to get basically the same thing when you can spend $35 to get something you can control with your phone.”  Benedict Evans, a consultant at Enders Analysis in London, said to Huffington Post.
