What’s Inside My Body App – A Great Educational Tool for Teaching Children About Their Body

I started teaching my son the name of his body parts when he was fairly young and at two and half years old he can easily name off 90% of his body parts.  Of course, this doesn’t include the inner workings of his body that we cannot see.    I was thrilled when I was presented with the opportunity to review an app called “What’s Inside My Body“.  It is a cute and simple app that allows you to teach your kids about their body parts and how their body works.

There are 4 characters to choose from as you are teaching your child about their body.  I was impressed with the amount of detail that the developers used to create the characters.  As you can see in the photo, the boy is wearing clothes.  You can use the sponge and help him remove his clothes.  You can also use the arrows at the top to remove his clothing quickly.  Parents please note that once your child removes their undergarments, you will be able to see actually body parts for both genders(to quickly skip over it use the arrows at the top of the screen).  So if you aren’t ready to explain the difference, you will need to skip over this option or you might have some explaining to do.  Although, you can use it as a learning experience and explain what the parts are called.  If you teach your child about their gentiles, I would even explain to them that only mommy, daddy, your child’s doctor, or another “trusted adult” touch them in their private spots.

Teachers this is a great app but I wouldn’t recommend using it in a classroom due to the exposed gentiles.  Unless you are specifically teaching a sex education class where this type of content would be appropriate.  I remember my oldest daughter learning about sex education towards the end of 6th grade.  Of course, I had to sign a permission slip giving the school permission to allow my daughter to participate in learning how the reproductive system works.  Most school teach the reproductive organs and don’t go into details about sex.  They also teach them about the sexually transmitted diseases.

In the photo below, you will see an actual photo of the muscles in the body.  It is very detailed and you can use it to show your child or student the different muscles throughout the body.  This app is missing the back side of the body.

As you can see, this app is very detailed and it is a great teaching tool to use for homeschooling and outside of the classroom.

I don’t suggest letting your child play with this app without your supervision, especially, if you are uncomfortable with showing them naked body parts.  This app was developed to help parents satisfy their child’s curiosity using fully animated photos.
