What is Time?

Time is a dimension in which events can be ordered from the past through the present into the future and also the measure of durations of events and the intervals between them [Wikipedia]. One view is that time is part of the fundamental structure of the universe – a dimension independent of events, in which events occur in sequence. The opposing view is that time is part of a fundamental intellectual structure within which humans sequence and compare events.

“Einstein showed that there isn’t a universal time,” explains Paul Davies. “Your time and my time get out of step with each other if we move differently.” In other words, the duration of time between two events can vary depending on how fast you are moving in the period between the events. Time is relative to the observer, or as the physicist Kip Thorne prefers to put it, time is “personal”
